Procedure for making O-rings
Separate the required length of cord by a sharp and perpendicular cut and glue it together as soon as possible. Apply the glue to the glued area in the thinnest possible layer and press the glued areas firmly together. After 10 seconds, the joint should have a handling strength of 50%. 100% possible strength is achieved after 12 hours. If we are joining cords made of difficult to glue materials (SI, FPM), we have to coat both joined surfaces with activator before applying the glue. For bonding, use the adhesives recommended and offered by us.
Advantages of bonding
- Quick availability of the O-ring in case of an acute operational need
- Use in larger diameter ranges
- Small inventories limited to single diameter rolls only
Disadvantages of gluing
- Use of O-ring only as a static seal
- Applicability up to 80°C due to temperature resistance of adhesives
- Laborious to produce in large quantities
Adhesives |
LOCTITE 401 3g - Superattack
LOCTITE 401 5g - Superattack |
Cyanoacrylate all-purpose moisture curing adhesive. Viscosity 125. Bonds very well to nitrile (NBR) rubber. |
LOCTITE 406 20g
LOCTITE 406 50g |
Cyanoacrylate adhesive in industrial size packaging, similar properties to LOCTITE 401. Viscosity 30 |
LOCTITE 770 10g - aktivátor |
Activates bonded surfaces of polyolefins. In our case necessary for bonding FPM and SI rubbers. Used together with LOCTITE 401 or LOCTITE 406 adhesives. |
