Multiple V-belts

Multiple V-belts are special types of belts used for power transmission in various machines and equipment. They are made up of several V-belts side by side, which increases their efficiency and ability to transmit higher power compared to single V-belts. These belts are usually made of high-strength material such as rubber compound with synthetic fiber or fiberglass inserts, which ensures wear resistance and long life.

Multiple V-belts

1673-2.png

Multiple V-belt drive can be fitted with separate belts
or use a multiple belt where the backs of the individual V-belts
are connected by a common belt.

The use of several separate belts side by side is common in many drives
and the transmission only needs to be fitted with belts with a small length tolerance.
However, if you are fitting a more demanding application, multiple belts are preferable.
By using it you will ensure:

  • Uniform loading of all wedges across the entire belt width
  • Quiet running and reduced vibration between individual and adjacent wedges
  • Improved lateral stiffness and avoidance of over-rolling
  • Better protection of the belt against mechanical damage from the environment

How to choose a suitable belt

Although each manufacturer labels belts with their product line name, it can be said that
in general, belts are manufactured on the same design principle. They are all in
height Lw are fitted with tensile fibres vulcanised in a rubber body. Belt
should therefore be chosen primarily according to the tensile fibre used (PES, KEV) and select
suitable manufacturer (quality of production and materials used, of course also different price).

PES - polyester construction

Standard construction. The belts are fitted with PES at the height of the construction length Lw
tensile fibres. Of course, the construction varies in detail from manufacturer to manufacturer
or in the composition of the rubber compound. It is these differences that distinguish the different
manufacturers in product quality. In terms of power transmission, however, belts with PES fibre differ between
do not differ diametrically from each other.

KEV - Kevlar construction

Most manufacturers often offer a more powerful alternative to the classic
PES belt in the form of Aramid (Kevlar) belts.
These belts have the same construction as PES belts. However, thanks to the fibre used
they transmit up to twice the power and are more resistant to shocks.
Aramid fibre is often referred to as Kevlar. This designation is actually
trademarked by DuPont for aramid, which aramid fiber
developed. In practice, you may therefore come across the designation Aramid, Kevlar or Ravlek.

Special construction

Some manufacturers also offer belts for the highest loads with improved basic
construction. These are mainly agricultural belts or belts for heavy
industry. The belts have, for example, a higher tensile fibre layer, a rubber compound body
The belt's rubber layer is filled with fibres, the belts have more textile coverings on the surface. For example.
Rubena FarmBelt belts can be ordered with lamination, which is a special reinforcement that
is placed under the ropes and increases the overall strength, e.g. of drilled belts.

Agricultural belts

Agricultural belts are nothing more than one of the 3 options listed above.
Due to the mobile operation, compactness, hostile environment
and overloading, agricultural machines are usually fitted with belts with stronger
construction and higher durability. To avoid confusion, such belts are
are identified only by a catalogue number, which indicates the type and design.
